Coaching Approach

8 Dimensions of Wellness

The model originally known as the "Wheel of Wellness" was developed by Witmer, Myers, and Sweeney. Later, Dr. Peggy Swarbrick introduced the concept of the 8 Dimensions of Wellness. While a general model exists, it has been interpreted in various ways by different individuals. That being said, my program is centered around my own modified version.

The 8 Dimensions of Wellness include: personal, health & wellness, family & relationships, fun & recreation, financial, work & learning, environmental, and spiritual.

Often, we may become overly focused on one aspect of our lives or spread ourselves thin across multiple areas, leading to an imbalance. This can result in neglecting our own well-being and experiencing burnout, anxiety, stress, or depression. True wellness involves a holistic approach. You will discover that achieving a balanced and fulfilling lifestyle requires consideration of all dimensions.

Teaching Methods

No presentations, no lectures, and no worksheets. Instead, I utilize two teaching methods: 1) active listening, where you share and I listen, and 2) intentional implementation. What do these methods entail and how do they function?

Method 1: Our sessions are centered on you speaking while I listen attentively. I won't rely on PowerPoints or lectures to teach you. Instead, I'll focus on learning everything about you to provide the best support possible. This approach not only strengthens our coaching relationship but also ensures that you feel truly heard, understood, and supported.

Method 2: Each week, I provide you with intentional implementation tasks. This entails executing plans, ideas, or decisions with purpose and conscious consideration. Intentional implementation involves setting clear goals and aligning your actions, thoughts, and behaviors to achieve them. It requires mindfulness, focus, and a commitment to your values or desired outcomes. I firmly believe that true learning comes from taking daily action and consistent practice.

The 3 R’s

REFLECT: We reflect on your past, present, and future experiences, thoughts, and life journey. This serves as our foundation. Through deep and careful consideration of all aspects, we gain insight and understanding, guiding us in determining our next steps and setting goals.

REFRAME: Following reflection and goal-setting, the majority of our sessions will focus on reframing your perspective, mindset, and language. Reframing involves looking at a situation, thought, or belief from a different angle—this will help you see situations in a more empowering light, leading to greater resilience, flexibility, and problem-solving abilities.

REFINE: Lastly, we will refine things gradually. This final step is the most crucial practice, which goes hand in hand with reframing. We will work together to fine-tune strategies, behaviors, or approaches that better align with your goals and values. This can involve identifying areas or dimensions for improvement, experimenting with different techniques, and making gradual progress towards your desired outcome. Most importantly, it means continuous learning, adaptation, and growth in the pursuit of your journey towards a balanced and fulfilling life.
